This month, (Senior Support Worker) Iona celebrated her 50th birthday. The KC gang worked hard to surprise her with handmade birthday bunting, cards and pictures, and we all enjoyed the afternoon barbecue at KC. Also this month, David enjoyed being a tourist for the day, as he spent time enjoying the views in Kyle and […]
The KC gang have enjoyed trying out some new artistic activities over the past few weeks – here are some photos of the results! Firstly, Ester created this fantastic portrait of Frida Kahlo, adding real flowers to give a colourful 3D effect. Next, a Picasso-style activity – you can see Lachie John working hard on […]
This week, KC has re-opened at a reduced capacity (due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic) – there is a new rota so that different service users and staff can take turns to attend each day, to allow for social distancing. It feels great to be back!
This month, the KC gang have been busy helping out in the local community – Lachie John and Kerry helped to keep their home town tidy by joining in with the Kyle Spruce-up, and groups of service users and staff organised beach cleans in Kyleakin and Glenelg. Great work, everyone!
KC staff recently delivered a personalised ‘soothe box’ to each service user – each box contains items to help lift the mood and soothe anxiety, while promoting a sense of calm and wellbeing. Thank you to Margaret-Ann Matheson for donating £200 worth of The Body Shop products, and to Kyle Co-operative for the Easter eggs.
Jamie Fraser, who very sadly passed away on the 31st of March, was part of KC/SLAD from the very beginning, and was a great friend to us all. We will miss him very much.
As part of Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week, the KC gang joined in the fun by digging out our brightest odd socks and showing them off during one of our group Zoom calls! Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week culminates in World Down’s Syndrome Day (today, 21st March), and more information can be found via these links: https://www.worlddownsyndromeday.org/about-wdsd?gclid=Cj0KCQjws4aKBhDPARIsAIWH0JWekenir2FuNIZsNn_YekbvwN0zdfCzWURbdP9NYnnjamcDZz3Bi7IaAoGXEALw_wcB […]
Super fit Ester and her dad Douglas have been out on their tandem bike every day since April 26th last year. So far, they have raised £2,339 for KC, and they’re still going! Thank you very much, Ester and Douglas, and thank you to everybody who has supported and sponsored them. Here is the link […]
Thank you very much to Sam Bilner and the Plockton Past and Present Facebook page, for creating and selling these calendars in aid of Kyleakin Connections. Thank you also to everyone who bought a calendar!
We secured funding for our most recent project through Think Health Think Nature. Our challenge was for all our service users and staff to collectively walk, run or cycle the 837 miles (shortest cycle route) from Land’s End to John O’Groats over a period of 6 weeks. We achieved this goal (our final total was […]
